New Hampshire health officials have confirmed that the patient who passed away after undergoing neurosurgery at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester had Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
The future health of eight New Hampshire patients and five Massahchusetts patients will be monitored because the same surgical instruments used in the decedent were also used in their surgeries.
"We let them know we will continue to help and support them and to monitor their health going forward," said hospital president Dr. Joseph Pepe, "even though the risk is extremely low that any of these patients was infected."
