A woman who alleges that three physicians failed to timely diagnose and treat her after she presented with herpes simplex encephalitis, a rare brain inflammation disease caused by the same virus the causes cold sores. The failure to diagnose caused her brain to swell and led to permanent neurological damage, according to the medical malpractice lawsuit.
According to the Louisiana Record, "The plaintiff claims that the defendants failed to timely diagnose her condition and provide proper treatment. Lafleur asserts that due to the delay in treatment her injuries were worse than they would have been otherwise.
The defendant is accused of deviating from the acceptable standard of care, mismanaging the medical care of the plaintiff and failing to timely diagnose and treat the plaintiff’s condition."
