Former DC United Soccer Player Files Medical Negligence Lawsuit

Posted by Jared Green on September 05, 2012

Bryan Namoff, forced to retire from professional soccer, has filed a $12 million lawsuit against his former team and his former coach for what he alleges is medical negligence.  Namoff's lawsuit claims that DC United officials and his coach failed to properly evaluate his medical condition and cleared him to play too soon after Namoff suffered a concussion.

The soccer lawsuit comes in the wake of 3,000 injury-related lawsuits that have been filed by former NFL football players for related claims.  In 2000, former NFL player Merrill Hoge won a $1.55 million jury verdict against a Chicago doctor.  Hoge's lawsuit argued that the doctor didn't properly treat him for a concussion that eventually led to a more serious injury.
