Wyoming Medical Center in Casper has witnessed a dramatic decline in medical errors due to an innovative safety program partly inspired by the hospital CEO's visit to NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
The safety program features a "red zone" which indicates that any hospital staff person within the designated red zone is to be left undisturbed. Also, when staff were administering medications, they would wear a red badge, another "do not disturb" indicator.
This safety initiative, begun in 2009, has led to a 70% decrease in medical errors that cause harm to patients.
