Medical Director of Fertility Clinic Surrenders Medical License After Abuse Inquiry

Roger Ian Hardy, medical director of Fertility Centers of New England, has surrendered his medical license after an inquiry into allegations of improper touching and sexual molestation had surfaced.

According to the Boston Globe, "A patient first complained about Dr. Roger Ian Hardy in 2004, and over the years employees of the Reading-based fertility clinic said they witnessed at least three other incidents, the records show. Some staff “reported Dr. Hardy’s misconduct’’ to other physicians at the clinic.

Yet, until this year, Hardy continued to practice at the Fertility Centers of New England, which lists nine offices in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine on its website.

Hardy, a reproductive endocrinologist who treated patients at the clinic for 20 years, resigned his medical license on Jan. 21 amid an investigation sparked by new allegations made to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine, which licenses physicians."

According to WMUR, "Hardy also practiced at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, working out of an office at the Jackson Gray Medical Building. The hospital’s website said he specialized in women’s fertility.

“Upon notification (today) from the state, Dr. Hardy’s medical privileges at Portsmouth Regional Hospital were suspended. As a medical facility we are mandated to comply with the state's emergency license suspension ruling," Portsmouth Hospital officials said in a written statement.

Hardy is scheduled to have a hearing before the New Hampshire Board of Medicine June 4 at 1 p.m."
